Biography

Gustavo was born in Maracaibo - Venezuela's scorching-hot second city. He was raised by his maternal grandparents in a humble household. He grew up with his grandfather serenading him with Carlos Gardel tangos and recounting stories about his own acting career as a youth, surrounded by the big stars of the time: Pedro Infante, Libertad Lamarque and Tongolele, among others. Before long, Gustavo took the stage by storm representing one of the Wise Men in a live Nativity scene in the school play, dancing Flamenco on Mother's Day or singing in the Church Choir.

It was while studying Communications at the University of Zulia that the young man decided to go into serious acting, taking additional workshops in Scriptwriting, Direction, Film Editing, Mime, Puppetry, Singing and Modern Dance to broaden his skills. He helped create still-thriving Mampara Theatre Group. After getting his degree as a Journalist, he moved to the Venezuelan capital to seek the break-through that all actors dream of. In Caracas, while writing for a news program and reporting cultural items on camera, he worked as a background performer in soap-operas and as an actor in a theatre group called "Compás", directed by the Romanian-Venezuelan, Romeo Costea .In the capital, he took classes with two of the country's best acting coaches: América Alonso and Nelson Ortega.

After 10 years of hard work without the big break-through, Gustavo made the decision that would change his whole life: moving to Vancouver, Canada, where one of his siblings - Christian - and his mother, Luz , lived. Soon, the years of hard work began to pay off and he found himself cast in plays, singing in choirs and with salsa groups, and acting in numerous films and TV shows. The range of characters he's played is a testament to his acting versatility in this "new and sometimes strange" country : soldiers, priests, taxi drivers, ballet dancers, singers, burglars and drag queens, among others. In just one play alone - Tony n' Tina's Wedding, the celebrated, longest-running show in Western Canada - Gustavo has, over seven years, played almost all the male roles, bringing laughter and good cheer to hundreds of audiences.

About Gustavo's acting career: as one of his characters in "T n' T's Wedding" says, "we could go on and on and on." Stay tuned!
